Blue John Fluorite: While fluorite is found in many locations across the globe, there are certain attributes that make it all the more desirable; for example, when it possesses chameleon-like color change or displays bold bands of color. It is these varieties that elevate fluorite's position to one of the most desirable additions to any gemstone or specimen collection. Perhaps the most treasured of all banded fluorites are those known as Blue John fluorite. Named from the French bleu jaune, meaning blue yellow, it has a distinctively British pedigree.
Deposits of Blue John fluorite are found exclusively in southern England in caverns below a hillside near the village of Castleton. Recognized by many experts as the finest example of banded fluorite in the world today, Blue John fluorite is easily recognizable by its purple, blue, yellow and white fluorspar bands. Each colorful gem sports its own unique banded pattern and has been expertly shaped and polished by highly skilled artisans who regard this gem as one of their national treasures. We invite you to experience the exquisite nature of Blue John fluorite in this finely crafted jewelry item.
