Product Information
Brazilian untreated bi-color cats-eye tourmaline minimum 8.00ct mm varies mixed shape cabochon. Colors will vary. Mined and cut in Brazil.

The Stone:It's a stone we find in over 100 colors! In fact, its very name comes from the Sinhalese word turamali which means "stone of many colors"! It's one of the world's most popular gems, and color is a key reason for that popularity.Rubellite tourmaline are a rich red; the super-desirable Paraiba tourmaline are glorious, neon blue and green shades. Add a little chromium to the chemistry and voilà! You have an enviable green beauty. Indicolite are tourmaline that display dark violetish blue, blue, or greenish blue shades. The colors of tourmaline may present singly, or as parti-colored tourmaline with two or more colors together; bi-color or multi-color, respectively. Watermelon tourmaline is an example of the bi-color variety. These stones are green around the edges and pink in the center. So pretty, they make your mouth water...Color is just one of the reasons we love tourmaline. This stone is known for good-sized, clear crystals. At 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, tourmaline are ultra-wearable gemstones. So - they are pretty, appear in a myriad of colors, and are super-wearable. Tourmaline has many names; we simply call it wonderful! The Story:Ancient civilizations needed to explain the world in which they lived, very much as we do today. Without modern scientific tools, they had to find more fanciful explanations for earth's wonders.According to legend, tourmaline is found in many colors because it traveled to earth along a rainbow and picked up its colors along the way. Tourmaline was a valued element in ancient medicine, especially in the Far East where it was believed useful as a remedy for all manner of illnesses.Of course, folklore isn't factual, but it adds an interesting twist to this stone's story. It's one more great reason to enjoy tourmaline! The Savvy Shopper:Tourmaline is quite easy to keep looking its best. We suggest that you clean tourmaline in warm water. If needed, add gentle soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Steam and ultrasonic cleaners are NOT recommended. Do not use chemicals to clean tourmaline.
